This is a Rare and Stunning Vintage Men's Knox Custom Felt Fedora. A luxury purchase for its time, approximately $35 in the early to mid 1950’s. This marvellous Fedora is constructed of a subdued shade of cognac colour felt with a light knapp to it. A beautiful band of feathers wrapping around the base of the crown and finished with a spectacular feather brooch make this fedora stand out from the crowd. Measurements of 22.5” or size 7 1/8 are approximate, making it a size medium. The condition is superb with only a small blemish on the crown as shown in the photo. It has an ivory satin lining and a black leather sweatband, all in great condition. The company logo and brand is on the inside of the crown marked “Knox Tom n’ Jerry” and it is also stamped “Made in Canada under license” It remains a true statement of style, class and refinement and has stood the test of time. By the 1860s, Knox was already a famous US Top Hat brand, thanks to fine workmanship, superior styling and skilful marketing. With corporate headquarters on Broadway, New York, Charles Knox and his son Edward were lifelong hatmakers who knew their business inside and out. It was Knox who first marketed the Fedora as a men’s hat, while Knox hats of all styles sat on the heads of US Presidents, global leaders and captains of industry. The brand was eventually swallowed up in various brand consolidations during the 20th century and the last factory-made Knox Hats date from around 1960.
