This is "Vanity Fair: A Novel Without A Hero" by William Makepeace Thackeray, published by the William L. Allison Company as part of the Allison's Standard Library Series. It is undated but is presumed to be from the 1930s. It has black pebble textured hard covers with gold lettering on the spine, embossed decoration on the cover, and a red ribbon book mark. While the title page says that it has illustrations, that is an artifact from a different edition and there are no illustrations.
This novel inspired several audio, film, and television adaptations. This classic novel follows the lives of Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley amid their friends and families during and after the Napoleonic Wars.
This book is in very good condition. There is some wear to the cover and spine along with bumped corners. There is a previous owner's name on the back of the title page that shows through on to the front of the page. The rest of the pages have yellowing from age and 2 pages in the middle are missing paper from the outer margin (see photo). The binding is sound. Please see the photos.
