Antique butter knife or butter spreader. Its handle appears to be made from a deer antler, while the blade and decorative bolster (the collar where the blade and handle meet) are sterling with W & H Walter and Hall, Sheffield, England, 1900s. It also shows a crown, the lion passant and a capital letter D. And just under the yellow piece seems ivory.
These types of knives were popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, often used for serving butter at the dinner table. The intricate scrolling on the blade's edge and bolster is typical of the Victorian or Edwardian eras. The rustic look of the antler handle complements the elegant silverwork beautifully.
Lenght is 12 inches, wherethe blade is 6 inches.
