Victorian Saphiret Rare Faceted Antique lapel stick pin, gold plated

Victorian gold plated faceted Saphiret pin was made by fusing melted real gold into sapphire-colored glass. The result is a glass that appears brick red or brown, but reflects blue on the surface with an ability to change colour from deep blue to violet under different lighting conditions. An expensive process, the period during which it was made was short. (Antique Birks Jewelers grey velvet silk lined mother of pearl button, pin box is not included, if you are interested it would be an extra $90) This was produced in Gablonz in Czechoslovakia in the early 20th century This pin can be altered and made into a beautiful ring or a pendant to wear on a chain, by a jeweller. Age and Rarity: Saphiret glass is considered antique due to its production dates and the fact that it's no longer made due to the high cost of gold. & Collectibility: Due to its rarity and historical significance, saphiret glass is highly sought after by collectors and jewelry enthusiasts. Early saphiret stones can usually be dated by the cut of glass, stone setting and colours within the glass. Early pieces will tend to have deeper brown and blue tones, an indication of more gold in the glass. Stones were also more commonly faceted and tended to have slightly more vibrancy in colour than later stones.
