A decent size darker cobalt blue Jasperware pitcher by Wedgwood. A decorative swag of grapes and vines decorates the neck of this jug creating a frieze for two distinct tableau based on figures from larger classical groupings---"A Sacrifice to Cupid" and Lady Templeton's "Offering to Peace". The details are simply amazing! The jug has been marked underneath 'wedgwood, England, 24, Y' and what appears to be the letter X. The letter Y dates the item to 1896, in keeping with the darker cobalt colour and the notation of 'England' (post 1891). Overall this item is in great condition without chips, breaks or losses. There is a firing line in the spout which looks original to the piece, and some cracking lines to the slip decorations (pictured).
This jug stands 6.5 inches tall.
