A pair of lozenge shaped pottery or ceramic nesting dishes by SylvaC, made in England, dating from the late 1930´s. The edges have been decorated with blackberries (brambles) and a very art deco looking step edge. The glazing is a soft yellow / off white with plenty of crackling to it, especially inside the bowl. The two dishes fit nicely inside each other. Both bowls are stamped in ink ´Made in England, SylvaC and relief stamped ´1861 Made in England´
Condition: With crackling to the glaze and some staining inside the bowls, especially to the smaller one. There is a small chip off the foot rim of the smaller bowl (not noticeable in use). I did not find any cracks.
You will receive both bowls.

"The company, Shaw and Copestake (SylvaC) was founded in 1894 by William Copestake and William Shaw, in Longton, Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire. Copestake left in 1895 and Richard Hull became Shaw’s partner, and was joined by Hull’s son (Richard Junior) in 1936. The trade name SylvaC wasn´t registered until 1937. In 1938, the partners bought Thomas Lawrence Falcon pottery. The name ‘Falcon ware’ was used for pieces produced at both the Falcon and Sylvan (SylvaC) works until 1964. SylvaC continued to thrive as Shaw and Copestake until 1982 when it went into voluntary liquidation."
