A fantastic piece of Canadian advertising history, this is an authentic vintage Javex bleach jug from the 1950s. This half-gallon bottle is a wonderful decorative item that evokes the mid-century home.
The bottle is made of beautiful, heavy amber/brown glass, designed to protect the contents from light. It is embossed near the shoulder with "JAVEX" and "WHITENS," and features a classic "finger hook" handle. The bottom is also embossed with the Javex trademark.
It retains its original, colourful paper label which boasts of "Sunshine Bleach" now with the additive "PENTREX!" The back features charming illustrations and directions for use "In the Kitchen" and "In the Bathroom," along with a seal from the Chatelaine Institute, a classic Canadian mark of quality from the era.
Condition: The glass jug itself is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The paper label is in a distressed, primitive state with significant tears, missing sections, and staining, as clearly shown in the photos. This gives it a wonderful, authentic rustic character perfect for certain decor styles.
