Vintage 1970s ART Signed Necklace & 2 Kali necklace, Arthur Pepper. Asian Buddha motif pendant necklace, gold tone finish metal with orange plastic imitating coral. This jewelry was made in green as well, this is the harder to find orange version. The necklace chain measures 20 inches long, measures 5 1/2" long by 2 1/4" wide at widest point.
. Arthur Pepper founded his jewelry company ART in New York City in the late 1940s. However, the more reliable data about the company is absent. Even the exact year of the liquidation of the company is not clear, we know for sure that ART produced their last pieces in the early ’70s. If to compare the amount of jewelry that are among collectors and dealers, the company’s heyday was in the mid 50’s – 60’s of the XX century. Indeed, it was the “golden” age of costume jewelry. Meanwhile, ART company produced jewelry in very different styles, including – the Renaissance, Victorian and Art – Deco. Basically, decorations included flower, fruit and leafy motifs, and very rarely – figures of animals and reptiles. Indeed, Art jewelry lines and incredible designs were extraordinary beautiful. “Maltese” crosses, small brooches in the shape of flowers or fruit, vegetables with colored enamels made ART decoration very popular among fashionistas. And, of course, the owners of this costume jewelry cherished their “treasure”. Perhaps, this explains the excellent preservation of most Art jewelry.
