Vintage 1970s Viners 'Shape' Pattern Stainless Steel Dessert Spoons Set of 5
7" long, 8.3 oz all
This vintage set of dessert spoons is marked, 'Viners International Stainless Steel Empire on the back of the spoons shafts, and SHAPE on the back of the handle. These spoons are in good condition, however the pattern is faded on several of the spoons (see pictures). Each item has a length of 7''.

Viners 'Shape' is forged from 18/8 stainless steel. The cutlery has a very distinctive retro handle, with the pattern picked out in black. The handles have a satin finish, front and back, while the bowls are mirror polished. This range of cutlery is typically stamped EMPIRE. 'Shape' was designed by Gerald Benney. A fine Goldsmith, Benney was born in Hull in 1930 and went on to study at Brighton College of Art between 1946-8 where his father was Principal. After studying at the Royal College of Art between 1950-53. Benney became Professor of Silversmithing and Jewellery from 1974 to 1983 and was Consultant Designer to Viners of Sheffield throughout the 1960's.
