“Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me…”
The Mickey Mouse Club theme song sets the tone for the Mickey Mouse Game from Parker Brothers. Released in 1976, the board game prompted players to sing out the letters on a card to the tune of the cheery Mickey Mouse Club anthem: M-I-C, K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E!
GAMEPLAY
The object of the game was to be the first player to assemble 11 letter cards spelling out “MICKEY MOUSE”. This was accomplished through a player’s careful attention and quick reflexes.
At the beginning of each round, a player took a card from the top of the deck of cards, turned it over (shielding it from the group), and sang the string of letters detailed at the top of the card. Examples include: “MICKEY M”, “MICKE”, “MI”, and so on.
Next, players scrambled to capture the token resting beside the corresponding letter on the game board. The player who got the token was then given the card by the singer. The card included a single letter on a Mickey Mouse hat representing one of the 11 letters in “MICKEY MOUSE”.
The player who acquired the token was the next to draw a card from the deck and sing the string of letters outlined at the top of their card. The game continued in this way until one player assembled the 11 cards spelling out “MICKEY MOUSE”, thus winning the game.
