Original mid-century skunk ashtray, made in Japan by Gift Novelties Co around the 1950s. Ashtray collector item. Features a hand-painted black-and-white skunk with original faux fur tail and bright blue floral details. Text around the rim reads “For Little Butts And Big Stinkers” — a nod to the playful, risqué humor popular in novelty ashtrays of the era.
Marked with the original G Nov Co. Japan foil label on the base. These figural pieces were part of a wave of postwar Japan ceramics exported for dime stores and gift shops, now prized by collectors for their charm and humor.
Good vintage condition — no chips or cracks, tail fluff intact, paint bright. Light age wear as expected.
A collectible piece for midcentury barware lovers, figural ceramic collectors, or anyone building a retro risqué shelf.
