Artisanal multi-strand choker necklace purchased at a Montreal craft show in the late 1970s, originally received as a gift.
The necklace is composed of 6 free-moving rows of glass seed beads, designed to twist and intermingle rather than sit in a fixed order. Small, irregular transparent burgundy beads mix with brick-red opaque seed beads, alongside two strands of larger globular beads: one brick red and opaque, the other burgundy & translucent. This intentional play of color, transparency, and scale creates a sophisticated & refined look.
At the center sits a square glass pendant (~1 inch x 1 inch) in transparent deep red glass. The interior opening through which the strands pass is molded as an oval, a subtle but highly refined detail that allows the strands to move fluidly and sit beautifully at the neckline. The six silver-color wires pass through a small silver-tone bead before threading through the pendant: a construction detail associated with skilled hand assembly rather than mass production.
The beaded section (inc. pendant) measures 14”, finished with a 4” adjustable silver-tone chain ending in a cute tiny red bead and closing with a lobster clasp. The adjustable length makes this necklace an ideal anchoring layer for a trendy multi-layered necklace styling.
Rich brick red & burgundy tones evoke holiday glow, vintage revival & whimsigoth romance. In like-new condition, this necklace is the perfect gift: refined & distinctive.
