Vintage Arolan Kutomo Wool Poncho

This is a vintage woven wool poncho designed by Pirkko Maki for the Arolan Kutomo company of Toijala, Finland. Pirkko was the daughter of Pirkko Arola, who founded the Arolan Kutomo company during the 1940s. These ponchos were marketed during the 1960s and were very popular, enjoying both domestic and export markets. This poncho is woven in a striking magenta colourway. It has a wide turned collar and a fringed bottom edge and is constructed in a a triangular shape. This should fit a range of sizes - the neck measures approximately 12” across and laid flat, the centre measures 29” in height exclusive of the 3” fringe. It is in very good condition with no wear, tear or staining. A beautiful Finnish poncho - attractive, easy to wear vintage 60s look!
