Discover the timeless beauty of classical music with this vintage vinyl record featuring Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 and Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 101 (The Clock). Conducted by Fritz Busch with the Austrian State Symphony, and released on the Remington label.
Although the music of the two symphonies is of comparable mood, no similarity existed between the personalities of Haydn and Beethoven, nor between the background of events which inspired their composition. Beethoven, superhuman that he was, wrote his happy Eighth Symphony despite ill-health and pending deafness; Haydn, at peace with himself and the world, wrote "The Clock" at the climax of his fame, popularity and success.
