This elegant porcelain double handled cake plate was made in Ireland by Belleek, known for the eggshell thin nature of its fine parian china as well as its distinctive lustre glaze. This Belleek piece features a basketweave motif along with hand painted green shamrocks on long delicate brown stems. Shamrocks are the symbol of Ireland, and its three leaves are said to stand for faith, hope and love. The face of the plate bears a glossy creamy white glaze while the open handles are finished in light and dark brown, mimicking the appearance of branches or vines.
The cake plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The piece stands 1" as measured from the tabletop to the top of the handles and is 10.5" across as measured from the widest point of the handles. The plate itself is 9.125" from edge to edge. The foot rim is 4.25" in diameter and the underside of the piece bears the Belleek Third Period Black Mark used between 1926 - 1946. The piece weighs in at 12oz.
This parian china double handled cake plate displays beautifully and would make a great addition to a collection of antique/vintage Belleek or works equally well on its own. A classic and useful Irish find!
