This beautiful handblown blue glass candy dish with lid is a fine example of Italian "Tre Fuochi" glass made for the export market in the 1960s and 70s. The glass itself was most likely made in the Empoli region of Italy, which is well known for this type and quality of glass. It was then decorated by artists in the studios of Murano Italy. This is clearly seen in the quality and style of the hand painting along with the subtlety of color. They applied 24 k gold in both glossy and satin finishes with raised scroll work. Then, small delicate sprays of flowers were hand painted onto the gold surface in such a way that the flowers are raised off the surface. It is truly a work of art!
"Tre Fuochi" means "Three Fires." This is because the piece has to be in the furnace three times: once for the glass, once for the applied gold, and once for the enamel paint. While the Tre Fuochi style of decoration has been made in many countries (Czech Republic (Bohemia), Japan, China), there are differences in quality, style, and color.
It is approximately 4" at the widest point and 4 1/2" to the top of the lid.
It is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks and no significant loss to the gold or paint. There is very minor age wear. Please see all the photos.
