This vintage 1950s - 60s handmade Cubist figure design brooch pin pendant is by Cecelia and Tono of Taxco, Mexico. One of the most successful duos in Taxco’s 20th century Silver Renaissance, Cecilia and Tono excelled in some of the most difficult techniques in jewelry making like piedra negra, metales casados and mozaico Azteca. Their jewelry is usually modernist, yet their designs unfailingly reference Mexico’s rich archeological heritage.
From their early 'piedra negra' (black stone) line of jewelry, this piece is a true work of wearable art! The modernist "Picasso" style figure is composed of many individual pieces put together like a jigsaw puzzle in sterling silver, brass, black onyx and turquoise. Convertible from a brooch/pin to a pendant to add to your favourite chain.
Marked at back as shown, in script "Cecelia", "PIEDRA NEGRA", design number "T92", "Tono", "HECHO EN MEXICO" and "STERLING TAXCO 925" in a circle around the initials "AC".
Measures approximately 2" long x 1.35" wide. Weighs 23.7 grams. In excellent vintage condition with just fine light wear and some tarnish as shown.
