W. Heaton Cooper
W. Heaton Cooper was born in 1903 at Coniston in the Lake District, the son of the landscape painter, A. Heaton Cooper.
After training with his father, he studied at the Royal Academy School, London and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the R.B.A., the R.l. and other exhibitions in London and the provinces.
In 1953 he was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters and for eleven years was president of the Lake Artists Society.
In 1938 he established the Studio in Grasmere which exhibits his work and that of his late wife Ophelia Gordon Bell. W. Heaton Cooper has written and illustrated five books on the Lake District and illustrated all the rock climbing guides to the area. He has painted the lake and mountain scenery in all its changing moods and seasons.
Examples of his Lake District watercolours have been reproduced over a long period and now form a unique and interesting collection which can be seen at The Studio in Grasmere in the centre of the Lake District.
