Vintage Custom Tailored Sherwani

I had this piece custom made in the late 90s in Toronto’s Little India. Similar in shape to the Chinese qipao, this top is worn with salwar pajama pant as in photo (available separately in closet)but any contrasting kurta, punjabi or harem pant would work as well as leggings. Dark red silk blend over fabric with subtle floral pattern over which heavy gold and blue embroidering was done. Traditionally the garment would do up at the front but I opted for a fitted back zipper so it didn’t interfere with the beautiful embroidery. Fully lined. Machine sewn and embroidered but finished by hand. Made to measure for me the measurements are in photos. Will list as custom L. Two issues: the back zipper was fudged a little and I never had it fixed because it didn’t show if I wore a sari with the ensemble; the inside of the neckline has some of the fusible webbing showing through but it does not affect wear. It isn’t sticky or crumbling.
