This is a unique mid-century lamp made out of cypress knees, which are the roots of cypress trees that grow out of the swamp. They are common in the southern US in states such as Florida, and Louisiana. It was a popular home craft to make lamps out of these beautiful, organic shapes. The are mounted on a wood base. The shade is also very interesting as it is made in the style of a wood slat basket. The shade is finished along the top with plastic lacing to complete the rustic look. The lap is capped off with a finial, also made from a cypress knee. The basketweave shade attaches onto the light bulb itself with a wire clip, and does not require a traditional lamp harp. The lamp operates with a pull chain.
Measurements: 23 1/2" tall x 14" wide x 9" deep.
Condition: ***There is one area of breakage in the woven wood shade - please see photo where it is circled in red. Some marks in the finish of the cypress knees - see photos.
