This lovely clear glass dish has a sterling overlay design of birds of grape vines, and silver around the rim. It has three pedestal feet around the centre, which dips slightly into a very shallow bowl.
Can be used as a candy dish, relish dish or trinket dish.
Excellent vintage condition, no chips or cracks.
It is approximately 6” diameter
This line of sterling silver overlay was first made by New Martinsville and then Viking Glass from the 1940s to the '60s. Silver overlay is also called silver deposit glass or silver electroplated glass. In 1889, the decorative technique was patented in England. There were two distinct eras of popularity. From 1895 to the early 1920s, it had an avid following and became a decorative rage. A revival of followed immediately after the Second World War that lasted until the late 1950s.
