Vintage Art Deco Lusterware Salt Shaker and Creamer Set, Hand Painted in Japan
This exquisite pair of small ceramic pieces is a beautiful example of Art Deco Lusterware, likely dating from the 1920s to 1940s. The set consists of a salt shaker and a matching miniature creamer pitcher.
Key Features:
Iridescent Finish (Lusterware): Both pieces feature a gorgeous, shimmering luster glaze in pastel colors, primarily an opalescent lavender/periwinkle and a warm, glowing apricot/orange. This iridescent finish catches the light beautifully, giving the pieces a distinctive, vintage appeal.
Art Deco Design: The hexagonal, geometric shape of the bodies and the stylized, bold floral pattern are classic hallmarks of the Art Deco era.
Hand Painted Details: The central white shield on each piece is adorned with brightly colored, hand-painted flowers—yellow and pink/red—with green leaves and contrasting black outlines. The colors are vibrant against the soft luster background.
Salt Shaker Cap: The shaker features a removable, helmet-shaped cap with multiple holes, finished in the same lavender luster.
Markings: The undersides of both pieces bear a red, circular "Hand Painted Made in Japan" stamp, which is common for export pottery from this period.
Size: As shown with the measuring tape (last images), the shaker and creamer stand approximately 4.5 inches tall.
