Beautiful two tone clear glass with Deep Purple Amethyst center. Polished Pontil. Ca.1960's Presenting for your consideration, a Mid Century Modern Murano Style Glass Sommerso Teardrop Vase. This is likely authentic Murano given fine quality however cannot confirm without mark / sticker. Measures approx 7.5 inches tall by 2.75 inches at widest point. Vase weighs approx 1 pound (16 ounces) Excellent vintage condition, displays beautifully (see all photos for details and full condition) No chips or cracks, minor surface wear consistent with age. The word Sommerso means submerged or sunken, True to the meaning, the Sommerso glass is made by submerging a blown and shaped piece in molten glass of a different color, to cover it with another layer of glass. This technique gives the article a chromatic effect, thus making it a highly desirable art piece. This wonderful technique was developed in the island of Murano during the 1930s. The articles soon gained popularity the world over.
