In a kung (palace) in Seoul, a lovely girl looks over her city. Her black hair shines in the bright spring sunshine. Today she may go on a journey in Seoul. When she travels, she is carried in a palanquin (a covered couch carried on poles) and all the people of her country kowtow (kneel down and bow) to her as she passes. Koreans greet her by saying anyonghashimnikka.
When they leave, they say annyinght kyeseyo, which means leave in peace. Daughter of the emperor and empress of Korea, she is. called the Gong-Ju or princess. She is a beautiful child, dressed in her hanbok, the traditional Korean costume.
The princess and her family honor their heritage. Then, the day is a celebration, especially for children. Boys fly kites. The princess loves to play yut nori (a stick game). Beautiful music is played on gongs and drums. Sometimes dance troupes come to perform and encourage everyone to dance, too. Sol Nal is a wonderful day in Korea!
