This is a pre-owned vintage box of Munsell Crayola crayons, No. 7 M, which contained 7 colors. The box states it was made exclusively by Binney & Smith Co. in New York. The crayons were part of a series that incorporated the Munsell color system, which was the first time Crayola used a color wheel concept. The box specifies that it contains "five principal hues at middle value and middle chroma with middle gray and black".
The Munsell Crayola crayons are a vintage item and are not currently in production but still collected by collectors.
The Munsell color system defines colors based on hue, value, and chroma.
Made by Binney and Smith, which also made Crayola crayons. The Munsell line of crayons was discontinued in 1934.
