Vintage PAIR 18" Wayang Golek rod puppets Petruk + Sangkuni, Indonesian Sudanese

...traditional theatre puppet A pair of beautifully hand carved and painted wood and fabric rod puppets, as traditionally used in Indonesian / West Javanese puppet theatre. Dressed in patterned soft cotton fabric with these dolls are in good vintage condition with signs of age and use but strong pigments and good detailing. The central rod is removable from the head - Both puppets look to have the original rods. There is some wear and repairs made to the clothing. The characters seem unrelated but there is such a striking similarity, I decided to pair them up! One doll is marked Petruk Size: 18.5" (46.5 cm) The other is marked Sang Kuni (Sengkuni) Size: 18" (46 cm) Dates 1950 - 1970 **** THE STANDS DO NOT COME INCLUDED****
