Vintage Portuguese linens - I don’t know what this is but it’s beautiful

Thank you for checking out my listing. I don’t even really know what this is. It has a bunch of these pockets. I figure it’s some kind of basket liner for rolls or bread at the table. It also has two small buttons on one side and one on the other. I’m not quite sure what’s going on with this piece but it is beautiful. This is a true representation of Portuguese style linens.
