Front (Image & Style)
Subject: Staged scene from Carmen, titled “La plaza de toros” (The bullring). The opera’s final act is set outside the bullfighting arena, so this is almost certainly a promotional photo of stage performers.
Style: A French real photo postcard with hand-tinting — note the bold red highlights on the shawl, flower, and accents against the otherwise sepia base. That splash of color was deliberate to heighten drama, very much in line with Belle Époque / early Art Deco theatrical photography.
Era: Likely 1905–1915, same golden age of opera postcards in Paris.
✉️ Back (Writing)
Written entirely in French, addressed to Mademoiselle Evelyne Maurier, Rue Jean Jaurès, Cournon.
The long flowing handwriting fits the 1910s style. It’s not just a quick note — more of a full letter crammed onto the back, making it extra rich for ephemera collectors.
