This lot of two original Rolling Stone issues showcases Van Halen at one of the most dramatic turning points in their career - David Lee Roth striking out on his own, and the band moving forward without him.
The first issue (April 11, 1985) celebrates Roth in full flamboyant form - a frontman larger than life, with features on Sting’s solo show, Prince’s new LP, and the fashion and culture of the time. Flip through the pages and you’ll find vibrant vintage ads that are just as entertaining as the articles.
The second issue (July 3, 1986) reflects the shift: Van Halen after Roth’s departure. Alongside the band’s new chapter, you’ll find features on Jay Leno, Jackson Browne, and a special Summer Music Guide insert, complete with standout Levi’s 501 ads that scream 80s cool.
Both magazines are free of subscription labels and remain in excellent vintage condition - clean, intact, with only light yellowing of pages that adds to their authentic, time-capsule feel.
