Ocean magic turned into art, this porcelain trinket box is shaped as a sea urchin skeleton—those delicate shells you find on the beach, washed free of their spines.
Hand-painted & glazed in coral reef-inspired colors (periwinkle blue with touches of yellow & lilac) it recalls the harmony of hues I once saw while scuba diving along the Australian Great Barrier Reef. Hues vary with light.
Signed Holland Mold™ & purchased from a pottery studio around the late 1980s–early 1990s, this piece is both vintage & rare. I could not find another with this mold on the web. The colors are vibrant & modern, & the mold itself has historical significance (see note below).
Refer to pictures for size.
Condition: Some gentle rubbing at the bottom edges (see photos with arrows). Does not significantly detract from its beauty.
Perfect for explorers, to guard the “messages in bottles” they found and, for the rest of us, as a joyful addition to any decor.
A unique gift for someone who loves the ocean, art pottery, or vintage treasures.

For the curious:
Holland Mold™ was founded in 1946 by Austrian immigrant to the USA, John Hollendonner, a master mold maker. It flourished until 1997, when global competition & new technologies forced it to stop production. Today, surviving molds & pieces made from them are sought after by collectors.
