Vintage/Antique Edwardian G.F. watch chain, signed Simmons. 15" (See Photos). Very good condition - with swivel end and spring clasp. This is in remarkably good condition considering it is over 100 years old. Wear is on the clip where the pocket watch slid on, on the insides of each loops from being joined together in storage, slight wear on the head of clasp from pinching it to remove an attached accessory.
Chain is Simmons signed and it’s 12k gold filled but G.F stamp has worn off with use. This is quite a unique piece with beautiful patina, this is NOT an Art Deco piece, that was a popular knock off which was sold as true Simmons.
Can be worn as a choker (if neck size permits), or add a pendant in the center, or revived as an actual pocket watch chain!
Company History:
The R.F. Simmons Company, of Attleboro, Massachusetts USA, was founded in 1873 by Robert Fitz Simmons. By 1887 the company had over 200 employees, with offices in New York and agents all over the world. The company was acquired by Jostens in 1962.
The Simmons company claims to be:
The first jewelry house to issue a catalogue (1881)
The first to stamp goods with the makers ID
The first to offer a guarantee of satisfaction (1880s)
The first to use safety chains (1890s)
The first to produce a practical lock bracelet
I don't know much else about this Chain other than it was purchased by my grandparents & found prior to there estate sale.
