© 1937 Hardcover officially but is somewhat soft Cover in fair condition; no jacket Major crease the length of the spine Thumb index Some fraying of the cover material at top left front corner of cover; refer to photo 3 Lower right corner of cover is a bit damaged; refer to photo 4 The front cover’s ability to remain intact is tested the length of left side of cover; a bit loose Inside pages are almost entirely in good to very good condition Previous owner’s name and address on inside page prior to cover page This is a 1200+ page book Book is divided into two distinct sections - The Secretary’s Desk Book detailing how to accomplish an outstanding career as a secretary Described as a modern guide to correct English with approved forms for business, official and social correspondence Followed by a full descriptive Winston Simplified Dictionary, Comprehensive Edition, with every word defined so that its use and meaning can be easily understood; it is the second major section of the book The Secretary’s Desk Book is comprised of 327 pages The Winston Simplified Dictionary contains 836 pages And, that’s not all . . . . There are a few very minor tears here and there in the Desk Book Desk Book leading pages include a cover page, 2-page Table of Contents, 2 pages of Acknowledgments and a 4-page Introduction (Description continued in "Comments" section; left side of this screen . . . .)

vinny_media Within those 20 pages is the title page, copyright information, table of contents, list of illustrations, 2-page preface, 8 pages on “How Our Language Has Grown” and 6 pages on “Directions For the Use of This Book” The illustrations contained in the dictionary are printed on full page colour plates that do not have page numbers

vinny_media The letter “A”- in the Winston Dictionary - commences with the word “a” Following the Winston Dictionary is a 12-page “Dictionary of Mythological Names” There are red-ink underlinings on some of those pages

vinny_media The pages following the Mythological Names contain “Foreign Words and Phrases”, “Names of Persons and Places”, “Glossary of Business Terms”, “Word Formation”, Abbreviations Used in Writing and Printing”, “Signs and Symbols” and “Tables of Weights, Measures and Standards” The book ends with a blank page as well as a blank decorative page
