Vintage White & Blue Kimono

This beautiful vintage Kimono is white with a light blue floral pattern, accented with a little red. The other kimonos (and haoris) I have from the same vendor are all made of silk, but I don't believe this piece is made of silk. Given the stiffness and slight roughness of the fabric, I almost want to say it's like a cross between cotton and a fine canvas. It's comfortable, but it's not silk. The kimono has the traditional wide sleeves and reinforced lapel at the front. Please note that while the other kimonos listed have linings, this one is only lined in the front lapel areas, not the body. This piece is not marked with a size (or gender) and I'm not very familiar with measuring kimonos or haoris. Based on how I normally size unmarked pieces, this piece would be a size XL. There is leeway with the overlapping fabric in the front, so please use these very approximate flat lay measurements: Pit to pit: 23.5" Waist: 22.5" Hips: 22.5" Sleeve length: 20.5" Total length: 61" As it was explained to me by the original seller (so take it with a grain of salt), destroying old kimonos is frowned upon in Japanese culture. For this reason, many dealers are happy to sell these pieces to foreigners abroad. This haori is being sold with reverence and cultural appreciation, not appropriation. (If I'm way off base, please correct me. I don't pretend to be an expert!) Love the piece but not the price? Make an offer!

galedeanna Hi there It’s hard to tell from the photos do you think it’s possibly raw silk? I know they make polyester satin etc It’s just hard to pick a close pic to see if it’s possibly raw idk 😊

quirksvintage @galedeanna SO! after testing i'm leaning more towards raw silk than other materials. i've added 2 closeup pictures of the fabric to the listing and i'll send you a message in your bundle area with more details about the tests. i still can't be 100% certain, but i think there's a strong possibility this is raw silk.

quirksvintage @galedeanna I agree with you on the texture, you have a good eye! It's definitely coarser than silky silk but it doesn't catch on anything. It might also just be a bit stiff from never being worn
