Hexagon cut black beads. Guessing from the 40s I have owned it over 50 yrs only used it for special occasions. All beads intact. Lining is velvet with a silky cotton bottom that appears to to be fraying. It has been packed away and time for someone to enjoy it.

Hi where was this made ? Is it a brand name like Birks , can the tear / rip be repaired? Thanks
halichar22
@myfriendhuggles I bought it in Grosse Pointe, Mich at an estate sale. I would guess it was originally purchased at a highend store. There are no Birks in the states but years ago Detroit was loaded with expensive stores that would’ve carried purses and accessories the same quality as Birks. They are all gone now as the auto industry has died.

Oh, the tear is in the seam in the bottom of the purse ( inside) you could stitch a patch of black satin in. The purse is weighty as all the beads are cut glass.

@halichar22 so interesting thank you for sharing these details

Not sure I love the idea of a patch … the tear is on the bottom does the material lift up to get access to sew or it?

@myfriendhuggles I’ll add a pic or 2 in a bit

Hi again, I got my purse out and gave it a good look. The first 3” in are velvet. That seems to be ok. But even in the last picture I currently have posted you can see the deterioration of the rest of the lining . I feels like silk and is deteriorating like silk. I used to collect vintage clothing from estate sales in grosse pointe. Looking at the beads in this purse I would date this to the the 30’s. They are glass hexagonal shape.

I would use a nice makeup bag like a black sparkling one from Lancome for the interior.
