Additional info on the item’s origin and era:
- This black silk embroidered shawl with white floral motifs and knotted fringe is a classic piano shawl / mantón de Manila.
- The bold contrast of white embroidery on black ground was especially popular in the Edwardian to Jazz Age period (circa 1900–1930s).
- The large rose clusters and scrolling vines are very typical of early 20th-century export shawls made in Canton, China, for the European and North American markets.
- Based on embroidery density and overall style, I’d place this one in the 1910s–1930s window.
