Early 1900s British postcard showing country flirtation at its finest — five field girls, two lads, and one poor guy losing the social lottery. The caption “Cruel Monopoly” says it all. Hand-tinted photochrom print, postmarked with message on back.
Publisher: Unknown (Printed in Great Britain — standard for early divided-back era)
Front Caption: Cruel Monopoly
Series: “The Harvest Girls”
Postmark: Early 1910s (based on the Edward VII one-penny stamp and handwriting style)
Art Style: Photochrom postcard with hand-tinted accents — a mix of early photographic realism and tinted romanticism, very typical of Edwardian “comic” and “flirtation” cards.
Tone: Subtly risqué for its time. These “Harvest Girl” postcards walked the line between rural charm and low-stakes scandal — think “country pin-up” by Edwardian standards.
Condition: Light surface wear, a few age marks, and a full written message on the back, postmarked early 1910s. Good vintage condition for its age.
