Vintage etched bird brooch in bakelite or early plastic - made in France

Measuring 2-3/4 inches beak to tail, this bird is finely executed.I was told it is made of bakelite, but I'm not certain (I tried a few tests, none of which were conclusive). Marked "Made in France" under the pin, which is of the older foldover type, very secure. In excellent condition.
