...clear glass fruit dish, Scandi serving platter An Ultima Thule large clear glass platter, designed by Tapio Wirkkala, 1968 and made in Finland. Ultima Thule (the ultimate or farthest north) features a surface design that resembles melting ice with water drops on the bottom. Perfect as a fruit bowl, appetizer platter, or cake plate. Works for casual or formal occasions on practically any table setting. This design dates between 1969 - 1988. Condition: This platter is in fantastic condition with only a few tiny marks of age and use, and comes in the original box marked as Ultima Thule 2232-350. The box with tape, tears and plenty of marks of wear. Dish size: 13-5/8 inches (34.7 cm ) diameter "Born in Hanko, Finland, Tapio Wirkkala is known as the versatile genius of design. His contribution to design includes everything from glass products to the design of banknotes and graphic art. During his career, Wirkkala participated in many international exhibitions, as well as being the artistic director of the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki for many years. He has won a large number of awards, including three gold medals at the Triennale in Milan in 1951, followed by another three in 1954."
