Vintage minimalist mcm Canadian Artist stone whale Rustic minimalist whale (orca?) riding an abstract wave. Eyes, mouth, blow hole are carved/indented. Entirely polished smooth. Base is raw with signature and place. Gorgeous mottled olive green stone with black and rusty brown “waves” or inclusions. Signed by “Keith Moore B.C. Canada” C. 1960s-1970s. Mid-Century Modern period. Rustic Minimalist Symbolism. Stone. Maybe soapstone but I think that’s more white-greys in colours. A beautiful piece of hefty art that we loved. Got lost and knocked around over the years in storage and with every move. White marks are our fault and you can feel the rawness. There is a “crack/seam” that’s always been there and you can feel no indentation. Around 2-3 lbs! 7x3x4” I think it’s a killer whale or orca but maybe it’s a shark? Definitely a smile there. 😀 Canadian. British Columbia. Not sure if Keith Moore is First Nations / North American Indigenous Aboriginal. But the subject is definitely inspired by the mythology, folk, totem symbols of Turtle Island Nations.
