Do you know what the outer fabric is? And are the pockets functional?

@emilykgc hi! Unfortunately there is no tag, but my guess is a wool/wool blend. It is heavy, but soft. I added some close up pics in case that helps. It was made in Canada in the mid-1960s.
The pockets are lined and functional :)
