...piece A beaded Maasai necklace, the colourful beads arranged on metal wire, interspersed with cowhide and closes with a simple hook at the neck. It is meant to stay mostly flat, like a disc, and is a traditional east African necklace, worn by the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania. The colours represent many aspects of their culture, traditions and personal beliefs. Jewelry amongst the Maasai tribe is made and worn to indicate age and social status as well as to mark important events. In good condition with some bending to the strands. Size: ca 6-3/4 inches (17 cm) diameter on the inside, 9-3/4 inches (24.5 cm) on the outside line of the collar. The strand rows are ca 1.5 inches (4 cm wide)
