Vintage unique handmade tavern pub rustic wooden sign wall hanging.
This sign is made of one plank of wood with scalloped/chiseled edges and a paper on the front with Fare of Ye Tavern by innkeeper Eliphalet Brackett. The paper front is 14” x 7” not including the rough edges. The whole wooden sign measures 17 3/8” x 9 1/2” x 3/4” thick.
According to one site, Eliphalet Brackett was the innkeeper of Eagle Tavern in Newton, New Hampshire in the 1800s.
A perfect addition for a man cave, pub, barware, etc.
The front of the sign is lacquered.
The metal hanging piece on the top is oddly shaped, so I’m not sure how it was originally hung.
There is a nail hole in the wood near the top right and one on the bottom right. Definitely a piece of reclaimed old wood. Top left corner has some wear towards the back.
Second photo has been brightened in order to better read the script.
Very cool and unusual piece of old history. Interesting fact: “Colonists counted their money by the English system of pounds, shillings, and pence -- twelve pence (pennies) per shilling, and twenty shillings per pound. Shillings were abbreviated s, which didn't stand for shillings but for solidus, a Roman coin. Pence were abbreviated d, which stands for denarius, a smaller Roman coin.”
Smoke free, cat friendly home.
