Vtg. 70’s Multi-Color MAXI GOWN WITH BLACK VELVET BODICE/SLEEVES Ethnic Style

The rich fabrics and colors of this beautifully made gown suggest an Eastern European or Slavic style. The fully-lined black velvet top and sleeves have a matching ruffle at the neck and the cuffs. The colorful, long taffeta skirt is full, with a 4.4 m. (172 in.) overall hem circumference. An elaborate 8.2 cm. (3-1/4 in.) wide embroidered band over the waist is a stunning focal point that ties together all the colors in the dress. The waist is not elastic but the band overtop is attached loosely, to hide any ‘snugness’ or looseness at the waist. This dress has no labels or tags indicating size or make but fits about size 8 - 10. Measurements laying flat are: between shoulders 39 cm (15 ½ in.); between pits 46 cm. (18 in.); waist 34.3 cm. (13 ½ in. ); length from shoulder seam to waist 35.5 cm. (14 in); overall length shoulder seam at sleeve to bottom hem 137.1 cm. (54 in.). The generous hem would allow for lengthening the dress up to 4.5 cm. (1 3/4 in.). There are hook-and-eye fasteners at the top of the zipper and at the back of the waist band. The ruffled edge of each cuff has a snap closure to secure the cuff close to the wrist, which also serves to accommodate different arm lengths. This stunning gown was most recently shown in a fashion show of vintage gowns; the final photo is when it was first worn at a formal event in the early 1970’s. It is clean, has no rips, tears or odors, and is in excellent condition, looks new. It comes from a smoke-free pet-free home.
