Vintage Canadian Silver Plate Footed Serving Bowl by Morton-Parker
This stunning piece is a vintage silver-plated serving bowl made by Morton-Parker Ltd. (Trenton, Ontario, Canada), under their popular Marlboro Plate trademark. The markings on the base provide excellent detail: MARLBORO PLATE, MORTON-PARKER CANADA, E. P. COPPER, and the style number 311.
The mark "E. P. COPPER" confirms that the piece is crafted from copper (a superior base metal for plating) and then electroplated with silver, a sign of higher quality construction often seen from the mid-20th century (1940s-1970s).
Key Features & Condition:
Maker/Origin: Morton-Parker Ltd., a well-regarded Canadian silver plate manufacturer.
Material: Silver Plate on a Copper base (E.P. Copper).
Design: Features a striking, rounded, pumpkin-like or melon shape (fluted or paneled design) on a recessed circular pedestal base. The body is highly reflective and polished.
Function: Ideal as a centerpiece bowl, fruit bowl, punch bowl insert, or simply a beautiful decorative item on a hutch or table.
Patina: The bowl has been highly polished, showing a bright, reflective shine. Some residual tarnish and minor surface scratches/scuffs are visible upon close inspection (as expected with vintage silver plate), which add to its authentic antique character. There is no visible loss of silver plating through to the copper base.
