That's awesome, there are so many things you can do within the music industry! I work in the legal department for Universal Music Group reviewing artist contracts and clearing music for digital use. It gets interesting! haha

@moxiemathis Natural light is the first must have. Find the right room in your house and photograph around noon. A mannequin is great to have (I got mine on amazon for around $50), you can also hang a hanger on a picture hook and that gives a nice effect too. Aviary is a good free app for touching up your photos, adjusting the lighting or giving some bokeh to your shots. You can put multiple pictures together with Pic Stitch and add words with After Photo. Hope that's helpful!

Good plan! We took the big kids the first time when they were 5 and 4, and it was sheer magic. Blake is 3.5 now, and he may collapse to meet Lightning McQueen. And we may not be able to leave. 😂 He's so into Disney Jr now that I know he will be beside himself. And the big kids (12 and 11) are just as excited. You can't beat Disney Magic at any age. 💕

Hi! You were one of the first people I bought something on Posh from &now that I've got my bearings of the place, I see that you're one of the biggest and best closets out there! 😍 I was wondering if you'd share tips to your success with a new Posher. I'm a SAHM of 3 little girls & I think I've finally found something that I can do to bring in money for my family without having to sacrifice really being here with them. @chloejoy15 aww, thanks! I've been on here since 2013 so it's taken me a while to get the following I have. I share lots of items from closets with similar sizes and brands. If you search by brand (like I do a lot of J. Crew) just go down and share tons of items. Most people pay your shares back with shares and that will get them looking at your closet. You do an awesome job styling your photos! I'm sure people will take some time browsing when you get them in!

@chloejoy15 I also start my items off with some wiggle room in the price so that when I get 10+ likes and it hasn't sold yet, I'll start lowering the price by 10%. That will also notify people who've liked the item and it gets them back looking at your closet. Just like a brick and mortar store, you've got to get them in the door! 😉

What profit do you try to achieve on your average BR or Anthro top for example? I'm not sure where you get your merchandise, but mine will be a combo of my own pre-loved clothes + re-sale NWT & pre-owned.

I sold a bundle today of 4 NWT tops of nice brands, & made $36 after paying back what I bought them for & came away feeling defeated! So either I'm pricing things too low initially or I have too unrealistic of expectations of what I can make. Any thoughts you could share without having to be too personal on your own finances? 😁

@chloejoy15 Most of my items are resale and then a few from my own closet. I calculate what my break even price will be after posh fees (so if I bought something for $16 I have to sell for at least $20). Then if you know the original retail prices, I start off an excellent condition item around 50% of retail, a bit more for NWT. Then reduce prices about once a week. I usually make $5-$10 off an item, which isn't much, but I have a lot of turnover so it adds up.

Have you found more success selling mid-priced brands? Or is that just what you can consistently get your hands on? Or what have you heard from other people's experience? I'm finding some options to buy higher end clothing (I don't have enough capital to start buying purses and shoes) but do most people really view Posh as a garage sale and won't buy higher priced items?

@chloejoy15 I think it depends on what you end up being known for. I sell a lot of Anthro, J. Crew and Madewell. I'll occasionally list some other brands but they tend to sit around for a while. People do love a bargain. Personally, I like selling more items quickly at lower prices then wait for a larger sale once in a while. Ask me questions anytime, I don't mind 😊

You're the best! I think that is probably the route I'll end up going too. Honestly, I don't know enough about high-end brands to really be a marketer of them. Anthro is high end to me 😂 Hope to return a favor to you in some way some day!

@chloejoy15 I didn't know much about fashion when I started but in the last two years I've pretty much replaced my entire wardrobe in Anthro and J. Crew, ha! You'll pick it up the more you're around it. I like to have a few higher end items in my closet (mostly J. Crew Collection) because it will usually pay off in the long run. Any of the other really high end stuff you have to start worrying about authenticity if you hadn't bought it direct from store. Too much hassle personally.

I love that you're a financial coach! My dad is a CFP although he primarily does financial coaching as a ministry to people. I've been looking for the last couple of years for something I could do to contribute to the family income as a SAHM and I feel really blessed to have found Posh. Gotta put that work in and see where it can go! You're an inspiration!

Not knowing the entirety of your situation, it's hard to give any advice but if you're going to make a little side business off Poshmark (like I do), definitely only use your profits to buy inventory. Don't put it on credit. Also, you should talk to a tax professional because you can track your expenses and mileage to write off on your taxes.
