Stunning bracelet by celebrated mid century African American jewelry designer and maker, Winifred Mason Chenet. Born in New York in 1912, Mason Chenet began to create jewelry in 1940 and specialised in mixed metals. She was inspired by West Indian and Haitian folk arts and traditions. She was mentor to renowned African American jeweler Art Smith. Mason Chenet sold her jewelry under her married name "Chenet".
This bracelet is made of a series of brass discs in alternating sizes, engraved with radiating lines and adorned with a hammered copper disc in the centre. The larger discs are 1" in diameter and the smaller ones are 3/4". The bracelet is 8" long.
Very good vintage condition. There is some patina and general signs of age and use - some tarnish spots and light scratches throughout. The hinge clip closure is secure and clips nicely.
