A hand carved wooden plaque of a sailor -or fisherman- made in Quebec most likely in Saint Jean Port Joli in the 1970s (an accompanying plaque has a stamp indicating its origins), a village famed for its wood carvers. The sailor wears a cap and thick coat and the carving is made from 2 pieces of wood joined together. The signed artist is "MaClara," which likely originated from an Irish name as in rural Quebec Irish immigrants quickly assimilated and became French speakers -there are no native English speakers in Port Joli.
The plaque is 12" tall by 10 3/4" wide.
