An antique bayonet for the Ross rifle used by the Canadian army in the first World War. Patented in 1909, this is the Mark II version (only 2000 Mark I bayonets were made for testing by the US and Canadian armies) and was likely used in the trench fighting of WWI. Please do consult the pictures for condition and wear. The Ross Rifle was a decent hunting or sniping rifle but was a disaster for Canadian soldiers in the trench conditions of that war with dirt, mud and water causing the rifle to jam; other design flaws would allow the bolt to fall out and springs to break. The rifle was replaced by the Lee Enfield in 1916 save for Canadian snipers. The bayonet is just over 14 1/2" in length and the blade is 10" long.
