handmade by Indigenous artisans in Northern Canada
These coats are highly valued for their authentic design, warmth, and unique cultural statement.
Style: Traditional parka, a design that has been worn for hundreds of years in the Canadian Arctic and sometimes features a "Mother Hubbard" style with a deep flounce at the bottom.
Material: made from 100% wool for warmth and durability.
Design: Features black felt appliqué designs of two birds (possibly geese)
Trim: Has a large fur ruff around the hood and cuffs, likely made from coyote or fox fur, which provides excellent protection from wind and snow.
Origin: Often handmade in communities across the Northwest Territories or other parts of Northern Canada, reflecting a strong cultural heritage and expert craftsmanship.
I have had this coat for over 20 years. I believe it was likely made in the 80s.
