Large beautiful Antique Victorian style oval Tatted doily with 4 difficult tatting designs of the length of 32"(82cm) at widest point. Tatting is considered a lost art and not a lot of people know about it. It is said to date back possibly earlier than Queen Elizabeth I and history says she even tatted, and her works are found at the Betsy Ross house where you will find a tatting shuttle on display. There are a few forms of tatting; Shuttle Tatting, Needle Tatting, Celtic Tatting & Japanese Tatting. Tatting is not like crocheting, though it looks like. It takes quite a bit longer to do depending on the designs and how you do it. Tatting is a form of lace, but is more delicate. This beautiful vintage tatted doily has been skilfully made in ecru with 4 different beautiful pattern floral & lacy. Measurements are 32"(82cm)L x 18"(46cm)W at widest point. It is in good condition for its age however there are a few tiny ends visible. (A finishing thread on bottom) Item sold as is but it looks great and a special rare treasure. Look at all pics.
